Australopithecus afarensis

(Praeanthropus africanus [1]) - Australopithecus, the earliest known remains are dated at 3.7 million years and the youngest of 1.3 million years ago. Were fou nd in Ethiopia and Tanzania. He had a wide pelvis, arched foot, t he toe in the foot on a par with the other fingers, opposable thumbs, arms were long and the capacity of the brain was about 500-600 cc. A. afarensis was a herbivore with a low, stocky build. Numerous remains of A. afarensis was found in East Africa, but some researchers believe that not all of the fossils found in fact to be attributed to this species.
